This professional development series will prepare teachers to implement the Rising Reader Summer Program.

Session #1 (4/13/2026): This training will provide an overview of the program’s purpose, daily structure, and key instructional components.

Teachers will:
  • Understand the purpose and instructional design of the Rising Reader Summer Program.
  • Engage in how to implement Responsive Classroom (Morning Meeting) practices.
  • Review the five pillars of literacy and how these foundational elements are integrated throughout the daily schedule.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to share strategies and build a shared understanding of effective literacy practices to support student learning.


Session #2 (4/27/2026): This training will provide an overview of practices that support vocabulary, comprehension, and oral language development through purposeful questioning, think-alouds, and student discussion.

Teachers will:
  • Identify effective strategies for conducting interactive read-alouds.
  • Apply interactive writing routines that engage students in generating ideas and contributing letters and words during shared writing.
  • Recognize and implement strategies that support English Language Learners.

Session #3 (5/4/2026): This training will focus on strengthening teachers’ implementation of
UFLI Foundations by connecting explicit phonics instruction to student data and identified
foundational literacy needs. The session will emphasize using data to make informed instructional decisions to ensure foundational reading instruction is targeted, systematic, and responsive to student needs.

Teachers will:
  • Describe the core instructional routines of UFLI Foundations and how they support systematic phonics instruction.
  • Interpret mCLASS DIBELS 8 data to identify students’ strengths and areas of need.
  • Plan targeted instructional supports that reinforce foundational literacy skills.

Session #4 (5/18/2026): This training will focus on strengthening teachers’ implementation of
small group instruction and literacy centers to support differentiated learning.

Teachers will:
  • Learn routines for establishing clear expectations that promote student independence and engagement during center rotations.
  • Design literacy centers that reinforce foundational literacy skills through purposeful play and practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan center-based instruction aligned to students’ literacy needs.
